Baking-day

I don't think of myself as one of the baking-type. You know, those girls who delight themselves in baking trays and trays of delicate, crunchy cookies and warm, soft loaves of bread for their loved ones... That's not me. Heck, I hadn't even entered the kitchen before I started work!

But when Chinese New Year approaches, it's an obligation I have to fulfill being the only daughter of the house. To put on my cotton apron, wash my hands clean, and dutifully enter the kitchen to help my mom bake cookies for CNY.

Imagine baking biscuits in the sweltering heat of the midday sun shining in through the kitchen windows. To stay nearby the warm oven, perspiring and tucking away my fringe that keeps on dropping, to focus on kneading little bits of margerine into shape using my clumsy fingers.

But it feels oh-so-satisfying once you smell that waft of hot biscuits coming from the oven...
