Week 28, 3rd Trimester - Stuff for Baby Pt. 1

Time flies... so soon I've stepped into the third trimester of carrying my baby. Can't believe that in just 10+ weeks we'll be receiving our first little baby... can't wait to cradle her in my arms and show her everything about life... but at the same time, also dreading the challenges and big changes in lifestyle that come along with parenthood...

My hubby's "nesting phase" started earlier than me... around when we first found out the gender of our child. This "nesting instinct" is something parents get when their baby is soon to arrive, e.g. cleaning the house, organizing stuff; basically getting the nest ready for their precious little one. He already cleared out a special wardrobe space for our little one. As for me, I have my mind set on a couple of little projects, but never got around to starting them yet... arghhh lazy :P

But cleaning/organizing aside, clicking the "pay" button on baby-stuff websites or swiping the credit card is a much easier thing to do! :P In recent weeks we already bought some big stuff for baby, and plan to shop for the little stuff during the coming baby fairs...

Here are some of the things we bought:

1) Graco LiteRider Travel System

LiteRider®, Stroller, the top rated SnugRide® Infant Car Seat, and stay-in-car base. - See more at:
This 3-pc system comes with a stroller, infant car seat and a "docking system" which can be strapped into the car. This system is around RM100 more expensive than sold in the USA, but worth it rather than going through the hassle of asking someone else to lug it back.

2) Play gym

This pink item was on sale in Jusco. When we bought this we ran into a couple of friends who are also parents. They told us, not every baby likes to be inside a play gym. Well nevermind, it's just a place where baby can lie while the grown-ups watch TV.

Simple Dimple Play Gym
And papa has already taken to it already... X_X

Oh, and to add some symptoms of the 3rd trimester before I forget. Other than having very bad acid reflux after meals, recently I woke up two nights with very bad cramps on my right leg and right side of my abdomen. The first night it was bad, but I managed to massage myself back to sleep without waking my hubby. The second night it happened the tummy cramp was so bad until I was shouting in pain... luckily it subsided after hubby helped to massage me. Nowadays before I go to sleep hubby will put a hot pack on my right side to relax the muscles. He is a very good hubby indeed. :-)

Happy Birthday to me

I realised that I hadn't been documenting my birthday for the past two years.

Every year I find myself wishing for May to come faster, that my birthday would be a special day; then when the day arrives, I find that it's not so special after all~ Haha I wonder whether anybody else gets that feeling...

For remembrance's sake, let me jot down what we did last year for my birthday... we had birthday dinner at Ben's @ Gurney Paragon, and hubby bought me a necklace with a rose gold windmill pendant that could spin... actually it's a special promotion for Mother's Day... and thanks to the charm (maybe), I'm gonna be a mother soon this year... ♥

This year... I had my birthday lunch at Aza Aza Korean restaurant together with my ex-Avago friends. Was craving for kimchi jigae but it turned out to be too spicy for me... nevertheless, felt fun to be celebrating with the girls. Hubby also gave me a surprise by "planting" my cake earlier in the restaurant! ♥ My birthday cake is a Neapolitan cake from Mon Delice bakery.

Birthday lunch
Actually was not feeling like having a heavy dinner cos my stomach was bloated and having a lot of acid reflux recently due to the pregnancy. So for something light we decided to go to try out the "new" place at Patio - bar de tapas @ Weld Quay.

For drinks, hubby ordered the Sangria while I had to drink something non-alcoholic and non-pineapply: apple+mint+lime (garrhh boring!) To our surprise, the tapas were really, really yummy! We ordered bombas (yummy chorizo-filled potato bombs), pollo (deep-fried chicken) and one more dish which I forgot the name (baguette with pan-fried mushrooms on the side). Too bad I can't eat a lot nowadays, next time I wanna order the paella and drink Sangria to my fill!~

Birthday dinner
After that we went shopping at 1st Avenue for a pair of non-slip sandals to wear comfortably to work. Ended up buying the Camel Active sandals the next day during Parkson sales~ We ended the night chilling at Starbucks sharing a hot green tea latte~

Happy birthday to me!~
Next year it'll not be just the two of us ♥~

Week 24, 2nd Trimester - Our Little Princess

April 26, 2014

We went to the doctor's office for our fifth ultrasound scan. So far, this is my favourite picture of her. ♥ Our little princess looks so peaceful and calm, looking up towards the world outside the womb. This looks like an "underwater shot", like something out of those National Geographic magazines... maybe she'll become a little diver one day and accompany her daddy out on his dives? Really really love this photo so much that I put this as my Whatsapp profile picture already... :-)

On the baby front, not many updates... she has doubled her size from our last visit (~500gm now)... and I can feel baby's movements coming stronger and more frequently! I noticed that baby has her own sleep/wake patterns, like she will wake up everyday around 7.00am and start kicking me until 8.00am, then fall asleep again as I have my hot morning shower. She is also active around the late afternoon before her daddy comes to fetch me from the office.

I read from the pregnancy app that baby can start to hear sounds from outside the womb. What surprises me is that baby can actually listen and respond to what her daddy says to her! Like when daddy calls her name through my belly... "Baby (*kick), where are youuuu?? (*kick)" (and repeat the calling)... she will kick at each of those times! So responsive!

Also I can feel baby getting very excited when we hear certain girly pop songs on the radio, she will kick very excitedly when those songs are on... hehe! And recently we started putting daddy's Grado headphones on my belly to let her listen to Spotify pregnancy playlist at night... can't imagine she likes songs like Canon in D and piano tunes too~~~ definitely a music lover!

So far, my second trimester pregnancy experience is wonderful and I'm enjoying every moment of it ♥~ feeling baby grow inside me and I'm also learning more each day~

Antenatal class

In movies or dramas, we often see expectant couples taking part in antenatal classes together. Finally, now that I'm pregnant, I can participate in an antenatal class too! Wakakakakaka~

The antenatal class was held at Island Hospital, Penang for a duration of 3 consecutive Saturdays. The first and second session were seminars, while the third one consisted of antenatal exercise session. I had to attend the first session alone as hubby was on vacation in Japan *sob*.

Antenatal exercise session
Some of the course content:

1st session:
  • Physical Changes During Pregnancy
  • Process of Labour - got video for natural birth and Caesarean section
  • Pain Control Programme - anesthetist explained about epidural
  • Lactation and Breast Feeding
2nd session:
  • Nutrition for Mother and Baby
  • Immunisation and Growth
3rd session:
  • Baby Care
  • Pre and Post-Natal Exercises
  • Breathing Exercises

All in all, I found the antenatal class highly informative, especially the sections on "Lactation and Breastfeeding" cos the pediatrician Dr. Hwang who briefed us was an experienced breastfeeding mom who had successfully exclusively breastfed all her three kids, and "Pre and Post-Natal Exercises" cos I learnt a lot of new moves which I can do at home.

Demo for baby bath
There was also a demonstration on how to give the infant a bath. I think this is one of the scary parts of handling the baby cos it's so tiny and vulnerable... hopefully I can learn to handle it with the help of my confinement lady, mom and mom-in-law later on...

As I am going through the antenatal classes and self-study on the Internet/ baby guide books, I am feeling kinda overwhelmed by how many things we are yet to learn in taking care of baby, the choices and decisions I need to make, are we doing enough/ preparing enough for baby? But do not fear, I am sure God is there to guide me and hubby and hold our hands as we walk down this new path with our little precious one. :-)

Happy expectant mommy and daddy-to-be :-)
Recent picture of me... getting fatter and fatter (fat face and dollop belly) in my 6th month!~
