I left my heart in San Francisco
Song of the day: "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" by Tony Bennett
The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly gay
The glory that was Rome is of another day
I've been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan
I'm going home to my city by the bay.
I left my heart in San Francisco
High on a hill, it calls to me
To be where little cable cars
Climb halfway to the stars
The morning fog may chill the air
I don't care
My love waits there in San Francisco
Above the blue and windy sea
When I come home to you, San Francisco
Your golden sun will shine for me!
This song will be the 'song of the day' for the whole duration of my stay in San Francisco. Fittingly, this beautiful song is one of two official anthems of the city of San Francisco. Playing this song over and over in my head evoked so much romanticism as I traversed through the mixed modernity and antiquity of Union Square, up and down the sloped streets of the city at night, and past its quaint neighborhoods in the daytime. I haven't been to Paris yet, but I must say so far, San Francisco is the most beautiful and romantic city I have ever visited.
