Chicken
Last Monday, Su Lin brought me to eat chicken at a shop outside campus. I had been eating pork dishes for the past two days so I was overjoyed when I heard her say that we were going to eat chicken. We went to this shop called Chicken Village.
Chicken to the Koreans is like, I dunno, fast food to us Malaysians? And the way they say it sounds pretty quirky to me. They don't add an adjective in front of chicken when they say it, like "Let's go eat fried chicken" nor use the Korean word for chicken, "Let's go eat dak". They'd plainly say, like in bad grammar, "Let's go eat chicken."
When the chicken came, my eyes almost popped out when I saw our order in front of us. I counted more than twelve pieces of fried chicken for a small plate, and it was just the both of us! The pan chan (side dishes) consisted of a small plate of chicken innards, fresh salad with mayonnaise and turnip kimchi. I kept on worrying that we wouldn't be able to finish it cos I don't like to waste food, to Su Lin's amusement, and she kept on saying that this is just a small plate and usually for two people they would order a large plate. The fried chicken was soy-sauce flavored.
Anyway, I felt really full already after my third piece and had to take it really slow for the next few pieces. Surprise, surprise we actually managed to finish it after all and my brain was full of guilty thoughts about adding all that cholesterol and fat to my waistline!
But chicken is really delicious here, much better than KFC! I think I'm surely gonna miss this dish when I leave this place after two years.
